Wastewater treatment system designing highly depends on the characteristics of the wastewater source. Based on the amount of wastewater, the wastewater treatment system is classified into a small scale, medium scale, big scale. The process of the wastewater treatment system needs to meet technical feasibility and financial suitability.

Domestic wastewater treatment process:

• Trash in wastewater from kitchen or customer, worker activities needs to be removed by a gully grate before passing to the sump.
• If the hotel has a swimming pool, the pool water from the bottom will go through a gully grate and a filter column to remove trash and suspended solids. After that, treated water will be reused in the pool.
• Cooking wastewater often contains oil, and grease so they will be separated at the sump before flowing to air tanks.
• The aeration equipment in the air tanks has the function of preventing anaerobic decomposition or settling the dirt.
• When water is directed to an anoxic tank, the anaerobic microorganisms here decompose nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater.
• At the aerotank, aerobic microorganisms will decompose dissolved organic matter and suspended substances remaining. Gas distribution tubes in the tank provide oxygen diffusing evenly in water.
• At the sedimentation tank, dead microorganism residue in wastewater will settle the sediment, turn into mud, and be taken to the sludge tank. The clean water at the sedimentation tank is passed through a disinfection tank containing chlorine before being discharged into the environment.

Note: The process above is just an illustrative example. Depending on the scale and actual situation, the discharge capacity of each enterprise, the wastewater treatment system may change.
