RO water filtration system can meet all water source requirements in medical equipment & supplies manufacturing industry.
Medical equipment & supplies manufacturing industry requires extremely high water quality and low conductivity because it is related directly to human health. RO water filtration system may meet all water source requirements in the medical equipment & supplies manufacturing industry.
RO water filtration technology is the most advanced, modern, and popular in developed countries in the world such as USA, Singapore, Korea, and Japan, is applied in many areas including industrial water filtration, residential water filtration, seawater filtration…
In the medical industry, water is filtered through RO water filtration system to:
RO - Reverse Osmosis is a technical membrane (also called a semi-permeable membrane), which only allows selectively clean water to pass by using the pressure of the pump to push water through a semi-permeable membrane, and ions in the form of dissolved mineral salts are trapped on the pressure side of the membrane.
Requirements of pure water quality depend on various factors such as the membrane size, the membrane hole size, temperature, operating pressure, and surface acreage. The filter levels include pure filtration removing particles from 1 micrometer upwards, ultra-filtration removing particles from 0,2 micrometers, and reverse osmosis removing particles that are greater than 0.0001 micrometers.
The pump pushing water in the semi-permeable membrane has high pressure, with freshwater is 2-17 bar (30-250 psi), with brackish water is 15.5-26 bar or 1.6-2.6 MPa (from 225 to 375 psi), and with seawater is approximately 55 to 81,5 bar or 6-8 MPa (800-1180 psi).
In the pharmaceutical industry, outlet water quality is usually equivalent to distilled water from 1 or 2 times that meets the standard of Vietnam Pharmacopoeia VI.
RO filtration system can change that depends on the water quality (input water source) and the output water quality requirements, using wattage and the actual condition of each installation location.
The filter membrane of RO demineralization is very sensitive, easy to obstruct, and hard to clean. Because of that, water from the tank has to be treated in the pretreatment stage to ensure the input water of RO system meeting QCVN 02:2009/BYT (National technical regulation on domestic water quality) to protect RO membrane.
The water filtration process of the system is often combined the demineralization process with ion exchange technology and reverse osmosis process.
The filtration system needs to go through the following steps:
Conclusion: After being treated by RO water filtration system, the outlet water has high conductivity (about 2 - 5 S/cm). The quality of water is quite low and enough to meet the supply water standard for the treatment stage later.
The application of two consecutive RO membranes only protects the membranes for each other but cannot improve water quality. To get better water quality and also lower conductivity, RO water filtration system needs to combine with other water filtration technologies such as EDI and UV lights. However, RO system still plays an important role (60%) in the whole system and EDI (40%).
