Causes of river pollution

River and lake water pollution has many causes. It could be due to natural phenomena such as landslides in mountains and rivers, or volcanic eruptions. However, the main thing still comes from humans. Domestic wastewater from residential areas, industrial zones, factories, and craft villages has not been treated or not treated thoroughly... causing serious water pollution.

Basic process of surface water treatment

Step 1: Use barriers and ventilation

- River water is pumped into the tank through a screen to remove trash, residue, sand and other obstructions.

- The aeration process is the process of aerating the tank to help remove odor-causing substances in the water, while also removing heavy metals such as Mn and Fe. This also helps kill some bacteria and increase the pH of the water.

Step 2: Flocculation and flocculation process

Using chemicals helps bind dissolved impurities suspended in river water into large particles, which settle to the bottom of the tank and adhere to the particle surface of the filter material layer. This chemical can be alum or PAC.

Step 3: Remove mud

After removing the impurities above, the sludge layer deposited on the bottom is removed using a pump. The sludge after being sucked out is compressed and used as fertilizer. 

Step 4: Filter the sand tank slowly and filter the sand tank quickly

Continue to treat remaining impurities in river water through many stages. Based on water quality, filtration capacity and time, the appropriate filtration form and system can be chosen.

Step 5: Disinfect

Use chemicals to remove remaining bacteria and other microorganisms before using water for daily use. Disinfectant chemicals can be chlorine or UV light, but chlorine is more popular due to its high efficiency and low price.
